The Civil Rights Movement FREE Newspapers in Education tab

The March on Washington where Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous “I have a Dream Speech” occured nearly 50 years ago on August 28, 1963.

In commemmoration of the March and the Civil Right Movement, the NIE Institute has partnered with HISTORY to publish a Civil Rights supplement. This supplement, The Civil Rights Movement, is intended as an introduction to many of the key people, events, and turning points in the American Civil Rights Movement, with resources that will give teachers and students additional starting points for further explorations of the Civil Rights Movement and the other movements for change that it inspired.
